How to find out your IP address

The Data inventory is restricted to specific computers identified by there IP address. An IP address is the number your computer uses to identify its self on the internet, and looks something like 123.456.789.012 . It similar to the way your phone number identifies your specific phone.

To find out your IP address part 1

  • Go to the Start menu and type in 'cmd', then open the command prompt
      - If this doesn't work press 'Windows Key' + 'r', enter 'cmd' and click 'OK'


  • Type in the command 'ipconfig' and press enter. This will bring up information about network connections on your computer.
  • If you computer is connected by cable to the internet, look for the 'Ethernet adapter' section and find the 'IPv4 Address'

  • If you computer is connected by Wireless to the internet, look for the 'Wireless LAN adapter' section and find the 'IPv4 Address'



To find out your IP address part 2

  • Go to Internet search 'What is my ip address'

  • Email Ian you both numbers you found out, what internet provider company you use - E.G. TPG, iinet, etc, and if you know is you IP addresses fixed or dynamic.
